On 8 October 2021, an updated version of the SEC came into effect to implement a designation made by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). This is in support of the Data Communications Company (DCC) Smart Metering Equipment Technical Specifications (SMETS) 1 service.
