An updated version of the SEC came into effect on 25 September 2020 to implement a designation by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). This is to support the Data Communications Company’s (DCC’s) Smart Metering Equipment Specifications 1 (SMETS1) service and the smart metering rollout more generally.
