The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) issued a Direction Letter to extend the timescale for Suppliers to replace non-Data Communications Company (DCC) enrolled Smart Metering Equipment Technical Specifications (SMETS) 1 Meters with SMETS2+ Meters to 31 December 2022. This date has been selected as it is considered to be in the best interests of consumers and industry.
The Supplier Standard Licence Conditions (SLCs) originally stated a timescale of 31 December 2021. Under SLC 54.7 (Electricity) and 48.7 (Gas), the Secretary of State may issue a direction to set later dates.
