On 12 March 2026, DESNZ laid an instrument before Parliament which was accompanied by an Explanatory Memorandum and Impact Assessment.
These documents set out the proposed “Post 2025” smart metering framework to improve the consumer experience of smart metering by ensuring smart meters operate as they should, and to continue installing smart meters following the conclusion of the 2022-25 Framework.
This follows the conclusion of DESNZ’s consultation, issued in August 2025.
