On 10 March 2026, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero issued a Government Response to its consultation of 8 August 2025 on the smart metering policy framework post 2025. The original consultation and the Government response can be found here.
On 12 March 2026 DESNZ laid the regulatory changes before Parliament, in line with the procedure under Section 89 of the Energy Act 2008.
On 20Â May 2026, the instrument was signed into effect by the Minister and was entered into force. The Department also published a summary of the changes in its Explanatory Memorandum.
