An updated version of the SEC came into effect on 6 May 2020 to implement two modifications as part of the June 2020 SEC Release and a BEIS designation. A further update was made on 7 May 2020 to implement a third modification.

A second update was made on 7 May 2020 to implement the following modification:
BEIS Designation in support of the DCC’s SMETS1 Core 1.1 Uplift
On 6 May, BEIS issued the Government’s response to a consultation and the resulting direction on a designation date for new versions of SEC Appendix AL ‘SMETS1 Transition and Migration Approach Document’ (TMAD) and Appendix AM ‘SMETS1 Supporting Requirements’ (S1SR) in support of the DCC’s SMETS1 Core 1.1 Uplift. This uplift introduces amendments to the migration approach and S1SR documentation that unlock barriers to migration of devices in certain circumstances.
