Design Notes detail specific areas of interest, be it processes, procedures, activities or events, where industry have requested further guidance to aid their understanding. This page hosts all current Smart Metering Implementation Programme Design Notes.

Design Notes are commissioned and approved by the Transitional Business Design Group (TBDG). In time, this responsibility will transition to the Technical Architecture and Business Architecture Sub-Committee, a SEC Sub-Committee.

Whilst the content of Design Notes were subject to peer review and considered to be accurate at the time of their publication, changes may have since taken place that mean this is no longer the case. In any event, Design Notes should be considered to contain non-binding clarifications on the topic identified. In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between any Design Note and any relevant licence conditions, the SEC or any other relevant regulation, the relevant licence conditions, SEC and/or other relevant regulation shall take precedence over the Design Note.

As part of the June and July 2017 TABASC meetings, an approach was agreed for undertaking the review of the nine Design Notes that sit under the TABASC ownership, following formal handover from BEIS and the transitional Technical and Business Design Group (TBDG). Item 08 "Design Note Review Update" from the July 2017 TABASC meeting provides a more detailed view of this process. It is available at the following link: July 2017 TABASC meeting documents.

As part of this review, if you have any comments on these Design Notes, please contact SECAS at the following address with your suggestions:
