Smart Metering Implementation Programme Consultation – Operational Transition of Smart Meters

On 16th October 2017, the Government published a consultation on the operational transition of smart meters.  The consultation invited stakeholder views on options to provide energy suppliers with flexibility around the SMETS1 end date.  The Government Response, published on 4th December 2017, confirmed the decision to introduce a process for energy suppliers to apply for operational flexibility to mitigate their SMETS2 transition risks. In parallel the application process opened and ran until 5th January 2018.  Assessment of applications has concluded and direction letters providing operational flexibility have been issued to 12 Energy Suppliers.  The direction letters are published below, redacted for commercial and personal information.
